Cyprus is an island nation in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, south of Turkey. Many will recall Cyprus as a key player in the unfortunate UCIpoints chase that led to the 2004 Olympics. Since then, Cyprus has been a popular vacation spot for European riders looking for good weather to start their early season training.
This is why Heather Irmiger and Jeremy Horgan Kobelski, Boulder Colorado’s husband-wife duo, are in Cyprus. They could have traveled to Venice, California to do laps around the muscle pit with Jim Morrison’s ghost or to Cyprus to race against an international field to build 2008 fitness.
The final sprint race was between Sweden’s Fredrik Kessiakoff, and Belgium’s RoelPaulissen. Kessiakoff was the winner of this race. Fredrik is Europe Champs number 3 and World Cup number 5. Roel is World Cup number 4. Jeremy Horgan Kobelski, Norba number 2, placed tenth.
But it was Heather Irmiger, Jeremy’s wife and Norba number 4, who made heads. Heather rode to the front with a well-above one minute margin and crossed the line.
Friday is the next round in the Cyprus cup.
